Project idea

This study explores the ways in which Architecture and Urban Design could contribute to disaster preparedness through the development of emergency shelter prototypes and urban planning interventions for Accra - based on a future or imagined disaster scenario.

Project description

The study focuses on the development of emergency housing strategies that can work in the coastal Ghanaian cultural context and can be integrated into preparedness plans. Beyond housing it will also interrogate the forms of social amenities and support infrastructure that might be needed in a post disaster scenario

Technical information

Since there are no existing emergency housing prototypes in the country it will be difficult to do a case study. The site is located Labone Accra Ghana because expert opinion marks the area as a safe site.
