Project idea

As students of the University of The Bahamas, we have designed a resilient and sustainable fire house for Berezynska St. in Dnipro in Ukraine. Our goal is to effectively yet intentionally design a modern, innovative fire station to foster hope during the ongoing conflict. As Bahamian designers, we understand the need for architecture that is beautiful yet minimally effect the environment. DESIGN INTENT : - Create a resilient, functional fire station that serves as a symbol of hope in conflict-affected areas, integrating seamlessly into the urban landscape while meeting the specific needs of emergency response operations. Design Criteria: - Prioritize resilience, functionality, accessibility, safety - Ensure efficient accommodation of firefighting equipment and personnel. - Incorporate measures for accessibility and safety. - Implement sustainable design principles.

WAYS TO SUPPORT UKRAINE : 1.Humanitarian Aid 2.Political Support 3.Economic Assistance 4.Cultural and Educational Exchanges 5.Military Assistance BAHAMAS/ UKRAINE CONNECTION : - The Bahamas demonstrates solidarity with Ukraine through diplomatic channels, humanitarian aid, and affirming commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. PROJECT FINDINGS: - Architecture connects with global issues like politics and humanitarian efforts. Respect for different cultures is crucial in design. - Architects can promote inclusivity and bring people together through their designs. - Buildings need to be stronger and adaptable to changing circumstances. - Community input is essential for designing functional spaces. - Architects can make a positive impact in challenging situations

The construction of the fire house consists of - Cladding and Finishes: - Triple-Glazed Curtainwall - Brick, Slate, and Polished Concrete Flooring: - Terrazzo -Acid-Stained Polished Concrete -Vinyl/Vinyl Tile -Epoxy and Rubber (EPDM) Interior Materials: -Impact-Resistant Drywall Fiberglass Reinforced Panels (FRPs) -INT45 Interior Framing Systems Foundations & Structural Elements: -Fire-Resistant Rated Materials -Roofing & Shingles: - FRP Roofing Sheets
