REPALM

Idea projektu

The REPALM Cultural and Energy Center is a pioneering initiative that tackles the pressing issue of improper agricultural waste management, specifically targeting the environmentally detrimental practice of burning palm waste. By implementing an advanced biomass pyrolysis process, REPALM efficiently converts palm waste into renewable energy sources. This conversion not only mitigates pollution but also contributes to sustainable energy solutions. Beyond its technological approach, REPALM places a strong emphasis on community involvement and education.

Popis projektu

The center hosts a variety of workshops where locals learn to repurpose palm waste into useful and marketable products, including furniture and construction materials. These creations are then showcased and sold in the center's dedicated exhibition and marketplace spaces, providing a platform for local artisans and promoting entrepreneurship. Additionally, REPALM offers comprehensive educational courses and prototyping labs, equipping community members with the skills and knowledge to innovate and engage in sustainable practices. Through these initiatives, the center aims to empower the local population, create new economic opportunities, and foster a culture of environmental stewardship.

Technické informácie

Main Structure of Industrial Part made of Trusses, while the enclosed part of the project is made of movable slabs by creating a building that can dynamically respond to evolving needs, functions, and user capacity, by having a slab composite system, with 3m tile grid that in the need for more space, slab is lifted upwards (3m) half floor height connected to 2 main cores to increase center area by 50%

REPALM

REPALM is a highly commendable synthesis of environmental innovation, social empowerment, and architectural intelligence. The project effectively addresses the ecological and economic challenges of palm waste through biomass conversion and community-based upcycling. The architecture supports this mission with a flexible, scalable spatial system—moveable slabs, core-connected trusses, and modular grid logic. The program bridges education, artisan workshops, and renewable energy generation, reinforcing a circular economy model. A potential refinement could be the visual expression of the energy infrastructure to strengthen architectural storytelling. Nonetheless, the proposal is innovative, purposeful, and technically adept, offering a scalable model for rural and peri-urban resilience.
