Popis projektu

Creating interactive spaces where people can engage with birds while respecting their environment and nature, and providing a unique visitor experience Walking trails: Allow visitors to walk among trees and plants to observe birds in their natural habitat. Observation areas: Located at strategic points providing good views of birds. Gardens: Designed to attract specific bird species Observation towers: Elevated to provide panoramic views of the area for observing migrating birds or those flying high. Glass-Enclosed Research Building with double skin Connection to Surroundings: The outer layer of glass provides panoramic views of the surrounding environment, fostering a sense of openness and connection with nature. Privacy and Noise Control: The double-skin facade acts as a buffer zone. The space between the two layers can be ventilated to control temperature, while also mitigating noise transmission and offering opportunities for incorporating

This project presents a highly technical and sustainable design, blending functionality and ecology in a way that creates a seamless connection between visitors and the avian world. The approach to visitor experience is thoughtful, with walking trails, observation areas, and panoramic towers ensuring that people can engage with birds without disturbing their natural environment. The use of a double-skin glass-enclosed research building is an excellent choice, offering both privacy and noise control, while enhancing the building's connection to its surroundings. The graphics are well established and easy to understand, clearly illustrating how the design fits within the site and functions as a holistic space for both research and public enjoyment. The choice of transparent steel mesh for bird safety and enhanced visibility works well in creating a barrier while allowing unobstructed views, adding to the project’s longevity and environmental durability. The material choices demonstrate a deep understanding of both aesthetic and functional needs, ensuring a durable yet immersive birdwatching experience. However, there is an opportunity to explore alternative natural materials instead of the yellow used for bird areas. Yellow might inadvertently pose a challenge to the birds or even influence their behavior in undesirable ways, depending on species' perceptions. A material that blends more harmoniously with the natural environment might better align with the project's core values of respecting nature while still providing an engaging experience for visitors. This project is an excellent example of sustainable design that encourages education, connection, and conservation. Thank you, Shimaa Ashraf, for sharing your work and contributing to the competition—it's evident that a lot of care and thought has gone into curating this design.
