Proposed architectural office studio design

Idea projektu

It is with joy and enthusiasm that I share my first MSC 1 project with you guys. The brief in short says to design an architectural firm's office on a relatively small site that slopes 3m backwards. This design enabled me to think very creatively and probably expanded my scope of thought a bit from the floorplan layouts down to the facade materials as all were chosen very carefully. The bricks on the basement and ground floor are from local materials, laterite sand excavated on site while the bronze finish screen facade signifies the culture of bronze metal art in the region and not only that, the pattern of the perforations is from an African native tree. The simplicity of white is also emphasized in all its class. I designed this architectural office to be very contextual speaking to its roots, but also incorporated advanced materials and techniques that speaks of its innovation and contemporary acceptance. I interprete the form as the new sitting on the old as the brick structure is below while the contemporary design is above it, but is merged by an age old material - GLASS that allows natural light into all the spaces from side to side; the screen facade also filtering light that enters the space and also providing privacy without sacrificing natural ventilation as curtain walls behind them have upwards sliding windows. I hope I've been able to inspire creativity with this design.

Proposed architectural office studio design

Hello, John Makinde! I’m excited to share my thoughts on your MSC 1 project. It’s clear that a great deal of creativity and thoughtful design went into this architectural office, especially considering the challenges of working with a relatively small, sloping site. The integration of local materials like the laterite sand bricks and the bronze finish screen façade truly grounds the design in its cultural and environmental context. The decision to use the pattern of an African native tree in the perforations is particularly unique, offering a meaningful connection to the region's heritage while adding an artistic touch to the modernity of the building. The way you’ve blended contemporary elements with traditional materials is impressive. The brick structure at the lower levels, combined with the sleek, modern upper floors, creates a dynamic contrast. The use of glass as a unifying material is particularly successful, allowing natural light to flow through the building and creating a sense of openness. I also appreciate how the screen façade not only serves as a decorative element but also as a functional one, filtering light and offering privacy without compromising on ventilation. The inclusion of upward sliding windows behind the screen adds a smart, practical detail to the design. The concept is well-thought-out, and the program of spaces you’ve included demonstrates a keen understanding of the needs of an architectural office. The AR/VR room, collaborative spaces, and even a mini hostel facility for staff are a great addition, addressing the diverse needs of the professionals who will work there. The technical aspects, including the use of glass, frame structure, and partition walls, are explained well, and the choice of materials supports both the aesthetic and functional goals of the design. I also want to mention that the plans are incredibly detailed—kudos! The precision in your drawings speaks to the depth of your understanding and careful consideration of the project. You did really well in putting this all together. Thank you for sharing your work!
