The 'Open Book' concept symbolizes an inviting gateway to knowledge, where spreading pages create a welcoming and transparent sanctuary open to all.

Project description

A green public library located in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The design draws from the concept of an open book, transforming through design iterations into a welcoming architectural form. The project incorporates extensive site analysis including vehicular and pedestrian circulation, topography, microclimate, solid-void space mapping, and distinctive buildings and landmarks. The library features a planetarium, multiple floor levels including underground spaces, and is designed to achieve LEED certification with sustainable features throughout.

Technical information

The project includes ground floor, first floor, and underground floor plans at scales of 1:200, 1:400, and 1:400 respectively. The site plan is at 1:500. Sections A-A and B-B are provided at 1:200 scale along with east and west elevations at 1:200. Green aspects include native landscape, double glazed glass, sustainable furniture materials, cross ventilation, insulated hot water pipes, radiant floor, use of brush to reduce heat, low-consumption fixtures and occupancy sensors, drip irrigation, gray water treatment and recycling, composite toilet system, recycled waste, water saving devices, photovoltaic solar energy, and solar panel integration. The structure features a shell structure diagram and skylight structure. A LEED scorecard is included for sustainability assessment.
