Future Proof Design

Project idea

Inspired by the local architecture the project represents a harmonious alignment between historical narration, modularity, sustainability, and adaptability for all age groups. The living units are placed at the sides of the plot, leaving the centre free for a distinctive red metal structure that serves both as a common area for residents and as a passage to access the units.

Project description

Residential buildings are composed of modular living units that can be easily reconfigured and customized to meet the changing needs of residents. This space will accommodate areas dedicated to entertainment, recreation, work, and other multifunctional uses, fostering a sense of community. Units can be studio apartments, one-bedroom, or larger multi-bedroom configurations. Additionally, many of the modular units have the potential to remain open for future reuse, serving as spaces for work, socialization, and living. A connecting structure between apartment buildings serves as a multifunctional community space, featuring elevated walkways, urban farms, and communal areas. This hub promotes social interaction and connection among residents enhancing the living experience and community life.

Technical information

The project features a modular design approach where each living unit serves as a flexible module, accommodating various configurations from studio apartments to multi-bedroom layouts. Modular construction not only reduces waste but also facilitates and future upgrades combining the sustainability and aesthetic appeal of timber with the efficiency and adaptability of modular design. Engineered wood products like Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) and Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) enhance structural performance Using just two dimensions for the entire construction gridline for a wooden modular multi-apartment building enhances cost efficiency and time efficiency by simplifying the design and assembly process, reducing material waste, and streamlining construction timelines.
