Innovation center for STU Campus

Idea projektu

The project idea started with having a centralized point inside the campus that connects the various engineering departments, with vegetated spaces that promotes the movement of the public. This has been done by following design principles that have been found in the urban analysis of STU and its surroundings.

Popis projektu

Three prefabricated modules being arranged around a central point, creating voids. This allows the building to be permeable at all times, allowing unobstructed views or disconnection from the public entrances. Since these modules are prefabricated, they can be transported and assembled on site. This reduces construction time and interruptions on campus due to the construction process.

Technické informace

The technology of the module consists of 2 main parts. The construction consists of prefabricated steel frames while using structural insulated panels for the interior, The exterior being cladded with Wienerberger cladding. The second part consists of the solar panel rooftops supplying power to the adaptive facades found around the structure. These adaptive facades use a rail system allowing them to move according to thermal and lighting requirements in an area.

Innovation center for STU Campus

Sebastiaan's approach to the innovation center project is very comprehensive. Radial spatial organizations are convincing through careful site analysis of surrounding building sites. Development of pre-fab building system also contributes to the success of the project. The innovation center is created to have permeability through articulations of building solid vs voids, and facade treatments. My suggestion to Sebastiaan is to break down the building structure further: Creating relations with surrounding buildings through landscapes and/or physical building connections. instead of organizing the building into a radial form, thinking of drawing activities from the edges of the site to the center of the courtyard.
