The site of this renovation project is the area affected by the Beirut Port Explosion on 4th August 2020. The main strategy is to help the area naturally recover through an ecological approach, by introducing the native vegetation and animal species back to Beirut, bringing new energy and potentials to this city.
The huge blast happened on 4th August greatly destroyed the significant port of Beirut and its surrounding, including residential, commercial and historical areas. This project will keep up the scars that this disaster left as a monument and caution. Simultaneously, a series of archipelagos imitating the trace of the explosion form the unique landscape of this ecological park. A foot and bike bridge connecting different functional areas of the city runs through the park.
Vegetation species with shorter growing time to mature are planted closer to the explosion centre, which allows the rehab process of this destroyed area to start from the centre and gradually extend into the city with the past of time. The introduction of animals will also follow the pace of the growth of vegetation. Decades later, the ruins caused by a tragic explosion will grow into a park full of life.
Dear WENXIN WEI
I hope that you are fine, first, I'll introduce myself, I'm asma sebai, an architect and urban planner.
As a juror for the INSPIRELI competition, I just reviewed your beautiful work, I found it a good work and deserves respect because it shows the great effort you put into it.
The concept is excellent, the revitalization of the site by the integration of biodiversity, but I have some recommendations for you to improve your project :
- the activity of the port of Beirut must be assured, and the creation of new storage space is essential for the port.
- wind turbines: check the location of the wind turbines (they interrupt the path of ships) the orientation of the wind
turbines (check the direction of the winds compared to the site).
- you can even create bungalows or camping areas in order to promote tourism.
- all artificial islands of the archipelago must be linked to ensure easy circulation.
I hope that my remarks will help you, wish you all the best in your life and your career.
have a nice day.
cordially.
