Project idea

The design philosophy focuses on preserving all valuable elements of the monument and creating an authentic environment that will provide visitors with a deep experience of the past. The goal is to create a space where visitors will be able to experience the atmosphere and emotions of historical events. I try to make the visitors fully understand the seriousness of the situations that actually took place there and to be familiar with the historical facts. This design approach is not only about informing, but also about influencing visitors emotionally, allowing them to better understand the past. I dedicate the area of the former textile factory to memorial function, in the sense of the assignment, and at the same time I include it in everyday life, through excursions, cultural events, conferences, but also a new opportunity for production that will be added in the neighboring building.

Project description

The proposed concept is based on several steps aimed at create an exhibition space efficiently and continuously with ONE PATH. The first step is to preserve as many structures as possible. These structures will be clearly distinguished from the new elements so that visitors can clearly distinguish between the original and new parts. The second step is a clear direction, a clear tour route that will guide visitors through the entire site and individual exhibits. This direction aims to ensure that visitors can best understand the exhibition's story and follow it from beginning to end. The third step is the dimensions of the road. The widening and narrowing of the road will guide visitors when to stop and pay attention to the exhibition and when to continue. The fourth step will be the diversity of exposures. We propose a diverse use of information boards, screening rooms, specific examples from the past, fabric exhibitions, different footing layers, electronic boards and workshops. This approach has the task of ensuring interest and diversity for visitors. The final step is the selection of furniture. In one object, we want to ensure that visitors do not feel too much comfort and pleasantness in spaces with a negative history. We want to achieve this feeling with the help of strong, minimalist furniture that has angular shapes. This style of furniture is chosen to minimize the feeling of comfort and convenience, which will make visitors focus more on the importance and seriousness of the situation. Conversely, in another part of the building, in the rooms focused on peace and tranquility, to create a soothing atmosphere and help visitors relax and immerse themselves in their inner peace, we used round shapes and light shades of furniture. Benches and other furniture will serve as places to relax and immerse yourself in the atmosphere and mood of the space.

Technical information

I propose to preserve as much of the original structures as possible with minimal intervention. Brick walls will remain without added thermal insulation or plaster. They need to be cleaned, grouted and penetrated. The floors will be repaired where there are holes and a new concrete layer will be added. One continuous path leads through all the buildings, which is made of brown, rust-colored concrete.
