Project idea
This academic project responds to the severe shortage of educational and sports infrastructure in Goma, a city experiencing rapid demographic growth. This expansion has led to the critical saturation of existing schools and a stark lack of public spaces dedicated to social cohesion, severely limiting youth development and community vitality. To address these challenges, the project focuses on the vital needs of the youth, offering a structured environment that fosters both academic advancement and social integration.
Project description
The architectural response centers on the concept of the "Rhythm of Learning," a multifunctional complex designed to enhance social convergence and community life. The layout organizes activities into interconnected educational wings, vocational training workshops, and a vibrant central agora, while integrating a proximity dispensary and a gymnasium built to international standards. This strategic intervention directly relieves the pressure on the saturated Mugunga stadium, creating a harmonious ecosystem that educates, connects, and builds a sustainable future for Goma.
Technical information
Grounded in sustainable minimalism, the project prioritizes local, bio-sourced materials and regional craftsmanship to reduce environmental impact. The structural and aesthetic identity relies on the strategic use of local volcanic stone for durable foundations and walls, paired with compressed earth bricks (BTC) and local fired bricks to ensure thermal comfort and structural integrity. By combining these regional materials with optimized technical solutions, the design seamlessly bridges cultural heritage, ecological responsibility, and modern architectural durability
