Project idea
The project addresses two major challenges facing Port Said: the increasing accumulation of waste generated by maritime activities along the Suez Canal and the city's growing dependence on port-related industries. As Port Said gradually loses part of its strategic economic advantage, the project proposes an upcycled Waste Museum that transforms canal waste into an artistic, environmental, and economic value. The museum serves as a platform for education, innovation, tourism, and artistic expression, demonstrating how discarded materials can be reimagined as architecture, art, and public experience.
Project description
The museum is divided into two main zones that guide visitors through a sequence of immersive and educational experiences. The journey begins in the Interactive Waste Hall and continues through the Hologram Hall, where the transformation of maritime waste is explored through digital storytelling. Visitors then move through the Net Reuse Hall, Interactive Sculpture Hall, and Glass Pavilion, all connected by a continuous ramp circulation that creates a seamless spatial experience. Along the journey, metal, glass, and sculpture workshops showcase the creative and industrial processes that transform waste materials into valuable products, artworks, and architectural elements.
Technical information
The museum is designed as a contemporary waterfront deconstructive building composed of articulated masses connected through a large steel truss structure. The architectural language reflects the industrial character of Port Said and the maritime environment of the Suez Canal.
