Shell Homage Flagship: Redefining Sustainable Spaces ​The core concept of the project is to transition the revolutionary Egyptian sustainable brand, Shell Homage, from temporary art exhibitions and exclusive European markets into a permanent, impactful retail and administrative presence. The design pays homage to the brand’s bio-philosophies, where food waste (such as egg and nut shells) is redefined into highly aesthetic, functional materials that embody a continuous organic lifecycle. By merging a commercial retail storefront with an integrated administrative zone, the project acts as an educational and experiential hub. It aims to scale up the brand’s reach, raise public awareness about sustainability, and create an immersive, deep consumer experience that physically connects the public with the tangible beauty of biomaterials

Project description

The design prioritizes the concept of selling an integrated experience rather than just a physical product, significantly elevating the luxury and perceived value of the sustainable goods. Through specialized interactive zones, the space fosters a profound connection, turning consumers from passive buyers into active participants in the sustainable movement ​Floor Plan & Form: The floor plan's fluid layout is directly inspired by the organic, marble-like veins of the brand’s biomaterial, creating a spatial metaphor for the material's structural essence. ​Fabrication & Furnishing: Most of the interior masses and furniture pieces are custom-sculpted and fabricated directly from the brand’s proprietary material using advanced CNC machining and large-scale 3D printing technologies. ​Material Contrast: Natural wood is strategically introduced to establish a striking tactile contrast, juxtaposing the raw, textured quality of timber surfaces with the ultra-smooth, polished finishes of the biomaterial components. ​The Custom-Made Zone: A dedicated interactive "Custom-Made Zone" is integrated into the showroom, allowing clients to personalize the finest details of their bespoke pieces. This bespoke process deepens the relationship between the consumer and the product, making each acquisition a unique personal experience Sculptural Columns as Display Units: Structural columns are completely reimagined through a contemporary, biomimetic approach, transforming them from rigid engineering constraints into fluid, organic sculptural elements. These columns are custom-sculpted and fabricated directly from the brand’s proprietary bio-composite material, serving a dual purpose as integrated product display units that appear as intentionally curated art pieces within the showroom. ​Dynamic Lighting & Adaptive Facade: Because 50% of the retail store’s perimeter is composed of full-height glass facades, a smart, sensor-driven lighting system is integrated throughout the space. Automated sensors continuously detect shifting outdoor daylight, dynamically adjusting the interior artificial lighting temperatures and intensities in real-time to maintain perfect luminous balance. ​Light & Material Interaction: The interior design explicitly studies the interaction of changing natural and artificial light with the unique surfaces of Shell Homage materials. The lighting highlights the tactile contrast between opaque structural forms and backlit, translucent biomaterial elements, creating an ever-changing atmospheric experience across the textures throughout the day

Technical information

The project utilizes a hybrid sustainable construction and interior fabrication system centered around biomaterial integration and advanced digital manufacturing: ​Digital Fabrication: Interior structural masses, organic partitions, and bespoke furniture pieces are digitally sculpted and fabricated using precise CNC milling and large-scale 3D printing technologies, directly optimizing the usage of the brand's proprietary bio-composite shell material. ​Materiality & Contrast: The spatial construction establishes a strict tactile contrast by juxtaposing raw, textured natural timber (used for primary framing and warm surface accents) with the ultra-smooth, polished, and custom-tinted finishes of the food-waste bio-composites. ​Sustainability & Circularity: All customized interior elements prioritize complete organic circularity, utilizing eco-friendly binders, vegan natural pigments, and clean joinery details to ensure the space itself reflects a zero-waste architectural lifecycle
