TRANSFORMING DISUSED QUARRIES/MINES INTO RESIDENTIAL AREAS

Project idea

Most quarries are usually located either in cities or in the suburbs and once exhausted, they are left as open pits which are an eyesore and are potential hazard. By developing condominiums on such land, we are essentially bringing back the beauty of the land and more importantly, rescuing and rejuvenating the landscape. Sustainable development practices are increasingly turning abandoned mines and quarries into houses, which both tackles the housing shortage and the problem of vacant industrial sites. Through a combination of filling in the quarry or mine, constructing retaining walls, and creating infrastructure like roads and utilities, these projects entail repurposing the land for residential use. This not only expands the housing market but also helps to redevelop the neighborhood and introduce new business prospects. Transforming disused quarries/mines into residential areas presents a unique opportunity to tackle several pressing issues faced by society today. By repurposing these sites, we can address the growing need for housing, protect natural habitats and resources, and revitalize communities. Additionally, this topic has significant environmental, social, and economic implications and has the potential to make a lasting impact on our world. Through rigorous research and innovative design solutions, this thesis can contribute to the development of sustainable and live-able communities for future generations.

Project description

• Overview of the problem: Disused quarries and mines are prevalent in many areas and pose environmental and safety hazards. • The proposed solution: Transforming disused quarries and mines into residential areas as a means of repurposing the land and addressing the hazards. • Feasibility studies and research on the best practices for repurposing disused quarries and mines into residential areas. • Examination of the potential benefits of converting disused quarries and mines into residential areas, including economic and environmental benefits • Case studies of successful repurposing of disused quarries and mines into residential areas. • Conclusion and recommendations for implementing the repurposing of disused quarries and mines into residential areas.

Technical information

The construction of the building is Fully RCC with Pile foundations spaced at no greater than 5000mm c/c. 3300 mm floor height to allow easy installation of services while not compromising the headroom.

Eis as razões: 1. Atentamente, Joseph El Rahi.
