Centro Cultural Metropolitano de Arte Joven

Project idea

The project is inserted inside a property where cultural heritage buildings coexist, two large blocks with a central courtyard (Railway Museum and Civil Registry) and two split houses, the one belonging to the railway manager and another withdrawn on the corner, from which It was decided to intervene and reactivate as an active gastronomic space. Likewise, there are buildings of interest such as the bus terminal or the Casannello tower in the north eighth for residence. The link between buildings from different periods and identities was sought, thus closing the whole of the heritage block.

Project description

Located in order to unite each of these structures and define new external spaces. All existing buildings are connected vertically and horizontally throughout the complex. Inside, public functions are protected, such as the lobby and the auditorium, which function not only as circulation and meeting spaces, but also as part of a new identity for the institution. The volume of the new building respects the existing heritage heights, it is positioned inside the block, redefining the external spaces, freeing up most of the space on the ground floor for public use, thus consolidating a much-needed urban plinth for the constant flows of mobility.

Metropolitan Cultural Center of Young Art
